DI Reminders and Updates (and links)

Initially sent December 10, 2019
We are now only a couple of weeks from the holiday/winter break – this is either a great time to get in a few extra DI practices…or a much needed break for your teams (and team managers!) Here are some important reminders for you and your teams, and all the links you need to find those resources:
  • The resource area on our Pennsylvania DI website is live – it has many great resources, so check it out here:
  • A new resource that has just been added is a running list of all of the important emails that I have sent so far this season. I know that some of you have recently been added as team managers, so this is a great way to go back and see what you might have missed. Check it out here:
  • Registration for all of our upcoming events are now open:
    • Skills Workshop/Training Day – January 18th – this is a great way to start off your 2020 and help your team build skills and techniques that will help them at the tournament. for more information and to register. Registration closes on January 8th.
    • Team Showcase – February 29th – what’s better than a dress rehearsal in front of a live audience to get your team ready for the tournament? Bring your team to our first ever Team Showcase and work the bugs out in a low stress environment (PS, bring your team’s appraiser and the showcase fee will be waived!). For more info and to register visit Registration closes on February 7th.
    • 2020 Affiliate Tournament – March 21 – This is it, the main event! It’s what your team has been working towards all season, so make sure you get your registration in early (it closes on February 21st)
  • Finally – you MUST submit your youth protection policy paperwork; it is due 60 days after you purchase your team number, and at least 7 days before an event you participate in (that means for those participating in the training, you must submit your paperwork  by January 11th). For many of you, the 60 day deadline is coming up soon.  Check out our Policies and Procedures page for more info
As always, please reach out if you have any questions. Thanks for all you do for our teams!!

Good afternoon DI coordinators!

I wanted to share with you a little news – our registration for the 2020 tournament (and for appraiser/volunteer sign up) is now open! For more information, check out this news article on our website: While we know that the tournament is still a ways away, we wanted to let you know so that you can incorporate this information into your planning for the year (the deadline information is in the news post).
We are also working on the details of the training date (in January) and the inaugural showcase event (in February). More information on these events will be coming out in the next week or two.

Welcome to Pennsylvania DI

Initially sent October 28, 2019

Good evening Destination Imagination Program Coordinators! Welcome to another exciting year of DI in Pennsylvania!

For those of you I have not met yet, my name is Andy Pickett, and I am the Affiliate Tournament Director for Pennsylvania DI. This means I (along with our Affiliate Director, Mike Sernoffsky) will be helping ensure you and your teams have a successful season from now until our Affiliate Tournament next spring (and maybe all the way to Global Finals!!!) I will send periodic emails throughout the season with much of the “business” end of DI: upcoming events, how to register for these events and the tournament, etc.
With that in mind, here are some important updates for this 2019-2020 season that you and your teams should be aware of…
  • We are currently looking in to providing some online webinars for Team Manager training. When we provided these trainings in the past, it was an opportunity for team managers from your programs to hear more about the DI process, get some tips and tricks on managing their teams throughout the year, and more information on the processes teams will have to follow. If you are interested in these opportunities, please let me know and I will coordinate with the training team!
  • We will be hosting a training event for teams this year. The tentative date is January 18th. This event will provide your teams opportunities to learn new skills and practice them in a hands on environment, including practicing Instant Challenges.
  • New this year – we are tentatively planning on holding a Showcase event for teams. This will be an opportunity for teams to present their solutions before a real live audience and get that “dress rehearsal” before the official tournament. It will be completely optional, but we think this will be a great way to give teams additional experience and the ability to show off their creativity and work out the bugs before the official tournament day. Please stay tuned for more information. We are looking at late February for this event.
  • The official 2020 Pennsylvania DI Affiliate Tournament will be held on March 21, 2020 in Elizabethtown, PA. More information on the registration process and requirements will be posted on the website in the coming weeks. Please remember that all teams who compete at the tournament must provide at least 1 volunteer who will serve as an appriaser during the tournament; more information will be forthcoming, but start recruiting now! More information on volunteering can be found here.
One additional key change this year has been implemented by Destination Imagination, Inc. headquarters. In order to ensure that this activity remains fun and safe for all participations, DI Inc. has developed a Youth Protection Policy. Further, our affiliate was also required to develop a Youth Protection Policy. A copy of our Youth Protection Policy is attached to this email, and can also be found on our website’s policies and procedures site. It is imperative that all teams read, understand and comply with both the DI, Inc and the PADI Youth Protection Policies; our PADI policy falls in line with Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law, and requires clearances from all team managers. Please note that the PADI Policy indicates that documentation to comply with this policy should be submitted within 60 days of purchasing your DI Membership Number; this year, for those who have already purchased their memberships and are receiving this email, will use October 29th, 2019 as that date, as that is the date you are receiving notice of the policy. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact Mike Sernoffsky or myself.
I would remind you all to check out our website at Key information will be posted under the “News” tab; information on our tournaments, training opportunities and volunteering/appraising are found under the “Get Involved” tab; key dates, times and locations can be found under the “Calendar”. Also, you can like our facebook page at where we post tips and tricks as well as announcements and events throughout the year. Finally, please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments, or concerns. If I don’t have the answers to your questions, I can certainly help put you in touch with individuals who can help you – my contact information is at the bottom of this email.
Thank you all for your dedication to your teams and to creative problem solving – best of luck for another great year of Pennsylvania DI!
